The Las Fallas
This is a unique and widely celebrated event in Valancia. It is strictly about the community and the unity of the city that the celebration transcends. This event takes place on the 15th through the 19th of March every year. Over the-five day period many event and happenings occur. What makes this festival strange is what happens at night during the last night of the festival. On the last night everyone in the community burns something. This can be any ruble lying around or apart of their own house. This does not include just one fire but thousands of fires all over the city. With representation of keeping the community whole and together, this festival happens every year to ensure the city sticks together.
Kanamara Matsuri
This weird festival is celebrated every year in Kanamara, Japan. It is the celebration of the penis. Many people crave the figure of the penis out of fruit, clothing and signs and parade around all day in a large crowd. This event is centred on a large vibrating penis shrine. The prostitutes that work the crowds all year long come and pray to this large vibrating shrine for protection against sexual transmitted diseases. Aside from the prostitution, this festival is also recognised as a good luck venture for business, marriages and prosperity in homes. It is said that it brings overall harmony. A legend surrounds this celebration that a sharp tooth daemon hid inside the private areas of a woman and castrated two men that went creeping inside on their wedding nights. The woman thus went to a local blacksmith to get help. This blacksmith created the penis statue that is prayed at today. .
La Tomatina
This event is held every year in the streets of Bunyol, Spain. It hosts an amazing audience of thirty thousand people or more every year. The festival consists of one large tomato dance that all the par-takers rave in the streets. With a hull of 125,000 kg of tomatoes, the dance sets off as a play fight in the middle of the streets. To get the event underway, five massive tomato missiles are setoff in the air over the crowd to get the festival underway. With this crazy event, there is only two rules that are in play. The first of these rules is that the par-takers must squish the tomato before throwing it to ensure that the target does not get hurt from the throwing, and the second is that only tomatoes are to be thrown, nothing else. With these rules in place, the crowds enjoy long hours of tomato-filled streets, in laughter, and excitement. This festival is happily enjoyed by adults and the young alike.
